Ms Maev Maguire

Maev Maguire is one of two Academic Staff Representatives on Governing Body and was elected in 2010.  Maev graduated from UCD in 1981 with a BA, a Higher Diploma in Education and a Masters in Management Science.  Maev spent two years in Sligo Regional Technical College and joined Dublin Institute of Technology (then CDVEC) in December 1983 as a College teacher.  She was promoted to structured Lecturer in 1987 and to her current position as Assistant Head of School of Mathematical Sciences in 2001.  In her time as a Lecturer, Maev has taught across a wide area of mathematics, with particular interest in the area of Operations Research.  She is a Member of Academic Council and has Chaired and served on a number of Sub-Committees of Council.  Maev is actively involved in promoting mathematics in both primary and secondary schools.  She organises events in DIT during National Maths Week each year and regularly visits schools and libraries presenting fun maths games and puzzles.

Maev was involved in a Bilateral Aid Agreement between the Department of Foreign Affairs in Ireland and the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania in the 1990’s.  She was responsible for organising Masters and PhD opportunities in Ireland for Members of the Department of Mathematics in Dar es Salaam and spent a year and a half lecturing in the University of Dar es Salaam.
