Dublin Institute of Technology is committed to promoting diversity in its student population through allocation of a percentage of places in undergraduate programmes to a number of categories of students, with a 15% allocation to Mature applicants, 5% to Non Standard applicants, 5% to Disability applicants, 5% to Access applicants, 5% to applicants from designated FETAC accredited programmes and 5% to International students. The department welcomes the diversity which is facilitated through this mechanism and welcomes applicants from all groups. In this it is believed that such students can contribute to the rich mix of ideas and philosophies which characterise a healthy educational environment. The Department of Architectural Technology particularly welcomes mature applicants whose maturity and experience will benefit their peer group, enriching the educational experience for students and staff alike.

Non Standard, Mature, Access, FETAC links, Disability and International applicants may be admitted through the procedures outlined below.

Leaving Certificate applicants:
Leaving Certificate applicants must apply through the CAO and will be admitted on the basis of Leaving Certificate points subject to achieving the minimum criteria as outlined above.

Mature applicants:
Mature applicants are candidates who are 23 or over in the year of application. Mature applicants must apply through the CAO, indicating on their application form any relevant experience together with their motivation in wishing to pursue a career in architectural technology.

Following examination by the academic staff of the Mature CAO application forms, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to attend an interview and present a portfolio of work. Subject to performance at interview, Mature applicants may be offered a place on the programme through a CAO Round 0 offer.

15% of places on the programme are reserved for Mature applicants. Places will be offered only to those successful in the interview process, with fewer than the 15% allocation being filled in the absence of suitable candidates.

Non Standard applicants:
Non Standard applicants are candidates under the age of 23 who are undertaking or have completed another programme of study, not necessarily related to architectural technology. Non standard applicants must apply through the CAO, indicating on their application form that they are engaged in or have completed another programme of study.

Following examination by the academic staff of the Non Standard CAO application forms, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to attend an interview and present a portfolio of work.

Subject to performance at interview, Non Standard applicants may be offered a place on the programme through a CAO Round 0 offer.

5% of places on the programme are reserved for Non Standard applicants. Places will be offered only to those successful in the interview process, with fewer than the 5% allocation being filled in the absence of suitable candidates.

Access applicants:
The Department of Architectural Technology is committed to policies of social inclusion, particularly in relation to participation in education. The DIT Access programme is one of the oldest in the country, and aims to ensure equality of outcome in higher education for under-represented groups, by promoting access and facilitating students’ participation and progression in DIT, in partnership with staff, students, education providers and communities.

5% of places on the programme are reserved for Access students and will be offered to Access applicants with Leaving Certificate points closest to the Round 1 level set in each academic year.

FETAC links applicants:
5% of places on the programme are reserved for students with Further Training and Awards Council (FETAC) qualifications and will be offered under the terms of the FETAC links scheme and to graduates of FETAC programmes relevant to architectural technology selected and approved by the department.

Disability applicants:
The Institute is an equal opportunities organisation and welcomes applications from students with disabilities.  5% of places on the programme are reserved for disability applicants using a system of random selection of eligible candidates.

Applicants who feel that they cannot achieve their full academic potential because of a disability or significant health difficulty are welcome to contact the DIT Disability Office to discuss any aspect of their application.

The department will endeavour to ensure that appropriate facilities are available to allow full access and participation for all students and work with the DIT Disability Office in facilitating access, participation and inclusion for students with disabilities.

International applicants:
European nationals fill the majority of places on DIT full time programmes. However, the department is happy to consider applications from suitably qualified International applicants

Applications should be made directly to DIT through the International Student Office. Applications must be accompanied by certified translations in English of qualifications and/or examination results and evidence of proficiency in English.

Following examination by the academic staff of the International application forms, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to attend an interview and present a portfolio of work.

Subject to performance at interview, Non Standard applicants may be offered a place on the programme through a CAO Round 0 offer.

5% of places on the programme are available for International applicants. Places will be offered only to those successful in the interview process, with fewer than the 5% allocation being filled in the absence of suitable candidates.

Advanced entry:
The Department of Architectural Technology will accept applications for advanced entry to years 2 and 3 of the programme from graduates of Level 7 architectural technology programmes in other institutions, with admission restricted to those who can demonstrate that all learning outcomes for the preceding years in the DIT programme have been met by them in the own programme of study and / or experience in the field.

Advanced Entry applicants must apply directly to DIT before 31 March each year, indicating on their application form their qualifications, any relevant experience and their motivation in wishing to undertake the Degree in Architectural Technology.

Following examination by the academic staff of the Advanced Entry application forms, a shortlist of candidates will be invited to attend an interview and present a portfolio of work.  Subject to performance at interview, Advanced Entry applicants may be offered a place on the programme, entering at a stage which the academic staff decide is most suited to their qualification and experience.

Places will be offered only to those successful in the interview process, with no places being offered in the absence of suitable candidates.

Interviews
The interview process applies to Non Standard, Mature, International and Advanced Entry applicants and provides the academic staff with an opportunity to discuss the applicant’s portfolio of work. While presentation of a portfolio of work is not essential, it is very valuable in helping to determine an applicant’s suitability to the very particular demands of the programme and a career in architectural technology.

Non Standard and Mature applicants who are invited to interview may be offered a place on the programme in the CAO Round 0. Numbers of applicants admitted in this way will vary from year to year and will depend on the number of candidates reaching the standard required for a Round 0 offer.

Non Standard and Mature applicants who are not invited to interview may still be admitted to the programme based on their Leaving Certificate performance, but in competition with all other standard applicants.

Interviews will take place in May each year.
