Project: Retreat on Inis Mor
“Interior” is a general term, widely accepted and understood to mean one simple thing, however within this term there lie countless intensities of interiority, versions which can be particularly weak or powerful.
Under the umbrella term of “Interior” there exist kernels of authenticity, governing factors both philosophical and architectural. Critical thought upon the term “Interior” allows us to unravel these necessary and invariable elements which dictate the intensities of each Interior space we enter.
Through the program of a multidenominational retreat centre my thesis proposes that through simple alterations of architectural elements a complex spectrum of Interior spaces can be created, prompting curious reactions which may lead us to ask more meaningful questions of the nature of interior space.
