The annual ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale) conference took placde at Dublin Castle 8–12 September 2010. Art, Design & Printing @ DIT was very happy to be the organising partner with ATypI. Academic staff Clare Bell and Mary Ann Bolger sit on the Board of ATypI and are leading the organisation of the event with support from Kieran Corcoran, Head of Design.

Theme

From the Book of Kells to Samuel Beckett and beyond, the word has always been at the centre of Irish political, cultural and social life. Dublin is therefore the ideal place for a gathering of those who are closely involved with the visual and material form of words. Thus from the cultural heart of a literary city the theme for ATypI 2010 – The Word – offered itself up. The conference provided an exciting opportunity to engage with some of the most interesting typographic practitioners and commentators and made it essential for anyone with even a passing interest in the future of the printed (and digitally reproduced) word.
