City Types Exhibition at Shanghai World Expo 2010
3 September to 3 October
Lecturers John Short and Tom Kelly are in Shanghai for September and early October working on a collaborative project with colleagues from Shanghai Institute of Visual Art (SIVA), Fudan University. The project is part of the optional Imagemaking module offered to third year students. In November 2009 the lectures led a study and work visit to Shanghai for 10 students. The ‘City Types’ project, which involved students from Dublin and Shanghai developing a series of images showing the character of each city, commenced during the visit. It continued with a return visit from lecturers Chen Yaoming and Zhao Jane with 10 SIVA students to Dublin in May 2010.
During the Dublin visit the Chinese Ambassador to Ireland Liu Biwei opened a show of the work at the DIT Aungier Street campus.
‘City Types’ at the Irish Pavilion was opened Dr Martin Mansergh TD.
The project continues with a further collaboration between SIVA and DIT staff and students which will lead to another exhibition of work for the closing ceremony of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 in October.
See the Irish Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010 website for more.
The project is sponsored by Culture Ireland and Dublin Institute of Technology.
