Dr. Greg Byrne


BSc (Hons) PhD


Graduated from UCD in 2001 with a B.Sc. in Industrial Microbiology before moving to St. James’s Hospital to complete a Ph.D. titled “The Immune response against Tissue Transglutaminase in Coeliac Disease”.

This was followed by post-doctoral research in the Institute of Molecular Medicine in St. James’s Hospital on autoimmunity in coeliac disease. This work focussed on the effect of autoantibodies on the activity of enzyme autoantigens.

After successfully applying for funding from the Children’s Medical & Research foundation in 2009, moved to the Children’s Research Centre in Crumlin to extend studies into paediatric populations.

Joined the School of Biological Sciences in 2010.

Research and Academic Interests:

Research interests include the pathogenic effects of autoantibodies and biomarkers of inflammation.
