DIT School of Retail & Services Management Holds 11th Retail Symposium

The School of Retail Services and Management in the DIT College of Business hosted its 11th annual Retail Symposium, part of the MBS Retail Management Degree programme, which this year focused on the Internationalisation of Retailing.

 Previous symposia have focused on a diversity of topics including Innovation & Entrepreneurship, The Multi-Channel Challenge, The Retail Space & The Store of the Future.  This year the Symposium invited presentations from speakers representing both international and indigenous Irish brands that have a strategic focus on building their brand internationally.  They included Tobias Wasmuht, Managing Director of SPAR International; Martina Doyle, Director of Operations at Lloyds Pharmacy Ireland; Blaine Callard. CEO. Harvey Norman Ireland; Dara O’Flynn, International Retail Sales Manager for Butler’s Chocolate; Derek Hughes. Managing Director& Principal 180 degrees Retail Consultants; and Frank Glesson,  Region Managing Director & COO Aramark Northern Europe. 

 

An interesting presentation on Islamic Retail Banking was given by Dr. Wael Moustafa, Pharos University, Egypt, while macro-economic perspectives were provided by economists Jim Power (Jim Power Economics) and Austin Hughes (KBC Bank). DIT also welcomed students and faculty from the University of Parma, Italy, and undergraduate and postgraduate students of Retail Management at DIT.
