In The News: DIT Business Graduate James McElroy featured in the Irish Independent with growing new company HouseMyDog.
DIT Business Graduate James McElroy along with his brother Timothy are making the headlines with their venture HouseMyDog, an online dog-sitting service featured most recently in the Irish Independent. The company, which describes itself as an “Airbnb for dogs”, was formed by brothers James and Timothy McElroy in 2013. An alternative to traditional kennels, Housemydog promises “a simple, cage-free and stress-free environment experience for safely boarding dogs in real homes at affordable rates”.
How it works; Dog owners looking for a sitter enter in their area on the website and produces a list of local sitters to choose from, once they have an agreement with the one they feel is the best match, they pay the site for the service. The sitter is paid 24 hours after the sitting has been completed and everyone is happy with how it went. Since its launch, HouseMyDog has grown from a small community in Dublin to over 40,000 users, with more than 50,000 nights booked. Demand is growing quickly from pet owners, so the brothers are always looking for good sitters to provide their services.
