College of Business Class of 2017 Graduate
28 November 2017
On Saturday 18 November, President Brian Norton presided over the final conferring ceremonies of 2017 during which graduates of the College of Business received their awards.
Near 1,300 graduates from a range of programmes and disciplines across the College of Business gathered to receive their certificates as family, friends and colleagues proudly looked on. The loudest rounds of applause were reserved for three new PhD recipients who are members of the 3S Group, a multi-disciplinary research unit within the DIT Graduate Business School specialising in business process optimisation. First to receive his PhD was Dr Mohammed Mesabbah for his highly commended Supply Chain Management research project - Hybrid Simulation-Based Planning Framework for Agri-Fresh Produce Supply Chain.
The second PhD awardee was Dr Wael Rashwan who has developed an integrated framework for staffing and shift scheduling in hospitals using advanced simulation software. Dr Rashwan’s work has been published in more than 11 academic articles at Irish and International conferences and also in International peer-reviewed academic journals.
Finally, Dr John Crowe was conferred for his work - An Integrated Retail Supply Chain Risk Management Framework: A System Thinking Approach– which addresses major strategic challenges facing the supply chains of retail companies. John's work is well-received by both academic and industry experts and has been cited more than 50 times during his PhD journey.
Students from DIT Conservatory of Music & Drama provided moving performances during the ceremony, while graduands and their families waited for the ceremonies to begin, a brass band from the Conservatory kept everyone entertained. In addition, beautiful renditions of "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi were performed by DIT music students Maria Matthews and Meabh McKenna on Harp, while Susie Gibbons was accompanied by Tara Viscardi at the later ceremonies.
