On Friday 9th March, a group of DIT College of Business Postgraduate students from various programmes to include MSc Strategic Management, MSc Product Management and the DIT MBA were invited to the IBM Technology Campus in Dublin 15 for a tour of the campus and presentations from key members of the team. Firstly, John Evans gave an introduction to IBM Watson, Dr. Claire Penny presented on Internet of Things followed by Bora Caglayan Urban Reasoning Applications from the Innovation Exchange.
Rory O' Dea, a student in MSc Strategic Management shared his experience "On arrival, we were lucky enough to catch the presentation of a fully-automated homemade R2D2 replica that one of the developers had been working on in his spare time (complete with working sound effects). Following on from that, we had three talks from IBM team members who delved into a number of projects that they’re were currently working on. These ranged from their highly impressive AI ‘Watson’, to the use of data, and AI capabilities to develop smart cities and smart buildings. A lot of this was tied into the work that we’d been doing in our innovation and technology class, so it was fascinating to see how it was being developed and implemented directly in the real world. Overall, I think everybody had a really great experience, and IMB we’re more than happy to answer any of our questions, of which there were many!”
