Established in January 2018, DIT SMF (Student Managed Fund) was the brainchild of three DIT College of Business MSc. Finance students, led by Conor Flanagan, Sudhanshu Suryavanshi,and James Igoe and mentored by Seán O'Reilly, lecturer in the School of Accounting and Finance.
DIT President, Professor Brian Norton officially launched DIT SMF on 12th April
On April 12th, DIT SMF was officially launched by DIT President, Professor Brian Norton with an audience of industry experts, leading sponsors-Goodbody Stockbrokers, Geneva Trading, Gillen Markets and EMS Copiers, DIT SMF team to include executive committee, advisory board and research student analysts, DIT academic staff and a host of friends and family, who joined in the celebrations.
Conor Flanagan, Co-founder and CEO- DIT SMF stated ''Having only set up the fund in January of this year, we have achieved significant success in a very short space of time. We have set the fund up with a high level of corporate governance in mind and as such have a student led executive committee s well as an advisory board made up of DIT academic staff and industry experts.''
From September 2018, DIT SMF will officially commence trading as the first DIT student run 'real money' investment fund in collaboration with Goodbody Stockbrokers, with any gains going directly to a chosen charity. DIT will also be the first college in Ireland to have a module linked directly with a real-life investment fund.
The Student Managed Fund initiative provides DIT students with real-world investment management experience. The fund allows students to develop skills in the fields of business analysis, investing, risk management, valuations and equity analysis within a secure corporate governance structure.
