DIT Win Prestigious Education Award for Innovative Logistics & Supply Chain Management Undergraduate Programme

DIT College of Business received the prestigious Education Award at the Irish Logistics and Transport Awards 2018 for its programme, BSc Logistics & Supply Chain Management, delivered by the College of Business. Launched in 2010, The Irish Logistics and Transport Awards are a long-standing benchmark for organisations demonstrating excellence in the industry.

The BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management, delivered by School of Management in DIT College of Business, is the leading dedicated level 8 logistics and supply chain management undergraduate degree on the island of Ireland. Students of the programme are supported by a large team of lecturers specialised in the discipline, which is also strongly engaged with industry through their research with outputs published in leading international journals and presented at key global logistics and supply chain management conferences.

Commenting at the gala award ceremony attended by key industry figures, Declan Allen, Programme Chair and Assistant Head, School of Management, said, “It was an honour to accept this award on behalf of all the team. DIT is committed to addressing the needs of employers through the BSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management undertaking extensive consultation with industry, which heavily influences the programme’s design. This win is also a testament to the commitment and student-centric focus of our teaching staff that work tirelessly to ensure industry is supplied with a high standard of work-ready graduates each year.”

DIT’s BSc in Logistics & Supply Chain Management displayed a thorough strategy to continuously engage with Industry, thereby improving its content offerings and maintaining relevance of the programme for the benefit of their Students. The wide reaching number of companies involved with the Work Experience module and Career Guidance service offerings demonstrated a clear focus on the development, preparation and eventual employment of Individuals from their time as Students, to Graduates and finally as employed Logistics & Supply-Chain Professionals.”

Recent BSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management graduate, Stephen Sweeney, explains how the programme prepared him for his role as Trainee Graduate Manager in Logistics with Lidl Ireland. “The BSc in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at DIT provides graduates with the diverse knowledge and skills necessary to develop themselves as tomorrow’s leaders. As a graduate of the programme, the opportunities that have been open to me during my four years at DIT have been numerous and have allowed me to develop a business concept from a first-year assignment into a start-up business. The internship in year three also offers students the opportunity to gain real and relevant experience in an organisational environment.”
