DIT College of Business Graduate Sinead Aherne leads Dublin to two-in-a-row victory at All-Ireland Final

17 September 2018

DIT graduate Sinead Aherne captained Dublin during its win against Cork in the All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Final on Sunday in Croke Park.

Sinead shared her thoughts on the win, with the Irish Independent- "We wanted to do two-in-a-row too. I don't think we would be happy with just the one. For years we chased that All-Ireland and we definitely didn't want to lose it." "We didn't ignore it, I don't think you can," admitted Dublin captain Sinead Aherne. "But we tried to put it into a frame that we were playing Cork and would just have to be at the peak of our game to beat them."

DIT College of Business Graduate Sinead Aherne studied BSc. Business and Management and currently works as an accountant with KPMG. Aherne is one of the most acclaimed footballers in Ireland and in 2017, was announced as the new Dublin Ladies senior captain and led the team as they beat Mayo in a four-goal win in last years' All-Ireland Ladies Senior Football Final.

Sinead's career achievements to date include a remarkable ten Leinster senior medals, two senior All Ireland and five All-Star Awards. During her college years, Sinead was honoured at the DIT Sports Awards Gala for her achievements with the DIT Ladies Gaelic Football Club and her contribution to campus life at DIT in encouraging student participation in sport.

Also part of the winning team was Sinead Goldrick, DIT MSc Marketing graduate, commenting on the win "To beat the standard bearers was really important for this group because it was always something that was going to be thrown back at them long after their boots were hung up - 'you couldn't beat that great Cork team'. The tradition they've built up in their own county and in women's football is huge."

Well done from everyone at DIT College of Business.
