22 March 2019
TU Dublin- Student Managed Fund Team: (L-R) Sean Horgan, Brendan Hughes, Shaina Sutton, Alannah Carragher and Evin Comerford.
The Goodbody Student Managed Fund Programme is an education initiative whereby up to thirty Goodbody staff, volunteer their time to support undergraduate students to get real, hands-on experience of managing equity funds. Students are exposed to a variety of disciplines such as research, asset allocation and portfolio management.
The Goodbody Student Managed Fund programme introduced a competitive dimension this year as the University Funds- to include TU Dublin, UCD, UCC, NUI Maynooth University and DCU went head-to-head on Thursday 21st March. Each University are allocated six funds with a group of 6-10 students in each fund. The six groups from TU Dublin are managing their own portfolios since October and presented in their teams at the Goodbody Student Managed Fund Competition.
We are delighted to announce that TU Dublin finished in 2nd place to the UCC team. The TU Dublin Investors and Entrepreneurs Society Team was led by Alastair Quirk (Property Economics) and members include Liam Gregory (Mechanical Engineering), Richardosn Tziki (Geographical Science), Joseph Finnegan Murphy (Economics and Finance), Conor Higgins (Economics and Finance), Phil Graff Von Matuschka (Property Economics) and Aaron Burke (Msc Strategic Management).
TU Dublin launched their first student managed fund in 2018 and is the only University in Ireland which has incorporated a real-life investment fund as part of their programme and assessment on the BSc. Economics and Finance.
This is a fantastic achievement by all and a great opportunity for the students to showcase their talents and compete with other universities. More importantly, the team will be able to present their prize to Pieta House on Thursday 28th March in our end of year event- TU Dublin Spring Summit- Inspiring Leaders of the Future.
