Dr. Brian Gormley

Brian Gormley

As Head of Campus Life, Brian leads the process of creating a more student-centred  institution, and oversees the development of student activities and support services in DIT. After graduating with a degree in Biotechnology from DCU in 1990, Brian was Students’ Union President in DCU for two years. He then worked in Student Affairs in Central Missouri State University, where he gained a Masters in Student Personnel Administration (Student Services). Following a short spell working in DCU again, he spent ten years in NUI Maynooth. Initially as Student Services Officer, and later as Director of Student Services. Brian is a qualified Management Accountant.

Dr. Rachel O'Connor

After Graduating with an Arts degree from NUIM in 1999, Rachel continued with her studies in the discipline of sociology and completed a taught Masters in the discipline in 2000. She was subsequently awarded a research fellowship with IRCHSS which allowed her to undertake her Ph.D. thesis which she completed in June, 2006. During her time at Maynooth, Rachel worked as an Occasional lecturer for both the Department of Adult Education and the Sociology Department. She started with DIT in September 2006. Rachel’s research centres on the social and human reactions to changes in the economy. In particular her Ph.D. examined the social consequences of the Celtic tiger on people working in new financial services and IT professions. Her current research looks at the impact of economy on third and forth level educational provision. As the Research and Project officer for the Camps Life office, Rachel assists Brian in the development of a more student centred institution.
