Revision Tips
Revision means to see again, and involves practicing what the exam requires, which is not how much do you know, but- how well do you understand, which means not reading and hoping to remember, but active engagement with the material.
- Selecting what is relevant to the task. Identifying the necessary topics and themes for each paper, with the help of past papers, friends (Revision Syndicates?) and faculty.
- Rethinking – ask new questions, see new perspectives, identify essential items, discuss and argue. Rearranging – order and reorder, make cross references. What about new material? Short term memory. Reducing – re-write; make summaries, key words and phrases, etc. Notes, etc.
- Writing under controlled conditions:- Essay plans – brainstorm (reduced notes), select, order. Timed essays, exam length, use friends and family for feedback! Why - in order to discover potentials and limitations and to develop the particular skills needed on that day.
