Examination Guidelines

  • All students enter for the examination by completing his/her module registration here. It is the students responsibility to make sure that they have registered for the correct modules
  • The location of the examination will be specified on each student’s examination timetable (available here).  Students should familiarise themselves with the location of the exam prior to the date of their first examination. On occasion the location of an examination will change for operational reasons, students should check the noticeboard in the college on the day of the exam to confirm the location of the exam.
  • All students need a current DIT Student ID card to gain entry to an examination venue.
  • Students shall present themselves for each examination in an orderly manner.  Students shall not, without permission, eat or drink other than water in the Examination.  Application for permission to partake of essential medication during an examination must be supported by medical certification submitted to the Examinations Office.
  • Students shall not bring into the Examination, nor have in their possession while in the exam, any computing equipment, including electronic organisers and programmable calculators, mobile phone, recording equipment, radio, books, dictionaries, notes or paper whatsoever except answer books and other materials as shall be authorised and/or provided by the Invigilator.  The only equipment allowed is that which has been authorised by both the Examinations Office and the Disability Service.
  • Retention of any unauthorised material shall be taken as constituting evidence of infringement of the regulations, and shall be reported by the Invigilator to the relevant Examinations Secretary.
  • A student whose behaviour is disruptive and who persists in such behaviour following a warning shall be expelled by the Examinations Officer from the Examination.  In such circumstances all materials issued to the student shall be retained by the Invigilator.
  • Students shall sign the Attendance Form when requested by the Invigilator, and shall leave their DIT Student ID Card in a visible position on the desk
  • Students shall ensure that they are in possession of the correct examination paper and must comply with the instructions printed on the examination paper and on the answer books.
  • Students are required to complete the front cover of all answer books issued to them.  The names of students should not appear anywhere on the answer book.  Rough work should be included in the answer book and identified as such.
  • No student shall aid or attempt to aid another student or obtain or attempt to obtain assistance from another, or communicate in any way with any other student in the Examination Hall.
  • A student shall not pass materials to, or receive materials from, another student while in the Examination.
  • Students may use drawing instruments, and non-programmable calculators in the Examination.  Such equipment must be provided by the student.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to submit all scripts, unused answer books, and other materials provided by the Invigilator before leaving the Examination.  Students may not remove from the Examination Hall any items provided by the Institute other than examination question papers.
  • A student who leaves the Hall during any period of an examination without the permission of the Invigilator shall not be re-admitted during that examination.  The invigilator shall record any such event.
  • Normally, no student shall be admitted to the Examination more than one half hour after the start of the examination; in exceptional circumstances however, and provided that no other student sitting the same paper has left the Examination, a student may be admitted later, at the discretion of the Examinations Secretary.  In such circumstances extra time will not normally be allowed.
  • In the event of fire or other serious cause the safety of the students and the Institute’s staff shall be the primary concern and the Invigilator(s) shall evacuate the Examination in an orderly manner and without delay.  In such circumstances the examination shall be declared void and shall be rescheduled.
