School Research featured in Sunday Times

Research from the Centre for Research in Engineering and Surface Technology (CREST) and the School of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences was featured in a recent Sunday Times article. the research centres on the synthesis and analysis of materials that can be used to degrade hospital "superbugs" such as MRSA on exposure to visible light. One patent has already been filed with others to follow. DIT postgraduate students Vinodkumar Etacheri and Damian Synnott, who are supervised by Dr Suresh Pillai (CREST) and Dr Michael Seery have synthesised a wide range of visible light active materials - meaning they can be activated by room light - and incorporated them into a wide variety of surface materials applicable to hospital environments. The work is in collaboration with VTT, Finland and a range of Irish and Finnish SMEs. For further information on this project, conact Dr Suresh Pillai,
