This programme is an analytical chemistry programme with applications in the area of forensic and environmental analysis. The emphasis in the programme is on application of laboratory techniques to analyse a wide range of sample types, including air, water and soil as well as evidence commonly found at scene of crimes; powders, glass and arson residues. As well as getting hands-on experience on a broad range of laboratory techniques, students cover all underlying theory in lectures ranging from core chemistry modules to specialised topics in forensic and environmental chemistry. This breadth in content gives graduates of the programme a wide range of career opportunities.

• Small class sizes and high quality of teaching by lecturers with both industrial experience and research in the areas they are teaching on innovative teaching and learning techniques are employed throughout the programme
• A very extensive laboratory practical programme in a wide range of chemical and analytical techniques. The programme is supported by a broad range of instruments which students use in their laboratory work A six-seven month placement in an industrial setting in Year 3. This is a key feature of the programme and many graduates gain employment in their placement location after graduation

• patent attorney
