DT235: Physics with Medical Physics and Bioengineering
Name: Michael Geaoghegan
Currently on placement in the Department of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering at the Adelaide & Meath Hospital incorporating the National Children's Hospital, Tallaght.
"I found the PBL approach to learning Physics in first year engaging and rewarding. It allowed me to think about Physics in more practical way and gave me the confidence to express my ideas in a way that was more clear and concise. I have enjoyed the broad range of modules in the biology, physics and engineering fields. This course has shown me how these fields can be applied in the health care and medical industry that is both challenging and interesting. Also the extensive practical experience is proving invaluable in my current placement in AMNCH Hospital, Tallaght".
Name: Anna Kolano
Graduated: 2010, BSc Hons in Physics with Medical Physics and Bioengineering
Current Position: MScR student at University of Manchester
"Following completion of my undergraduate degree I have started an MSc by research degree in University of Manchester Accelerator Group. At the moment I am working on an optical design of a gantry for future Proton Therapy Centre. After finishing my degree I hope to stay in research and continue working on Medical Applications of Accelerator Physics.
The time studying in DIT was very enjoyable. The academic staff were very supportive so despite doing a degree in a foreign country and in my second language I was able to adjust easily and quickly reach my top level. The curriculum puts emphasis on practical side of science including PBL sessions, many laboratory hours in physics and programing, and a long term work placement which I found very useful afterwards.
The variety that it offers definitely helped me to make up my mind on what I want to do in my life. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who would like to obtain a degree that will give him/her a wide choice of career paths not only in Science and Medical Physics fields but also in Management or Finance."
