The School of Mathematical Sciences is based on the Kevin Street campus of DIT. The School understands the importance to its graduates and their employers of modelling real-world problems and acquiring the ICT skills necessary for technical careers. Therefore, programmes make use of specialist computer laboratories which introduce students to modelling and mathematical software. The School has a vibrant research atmosphere and students are encouraged to attend the regular mathematical science seminars. Registered students also have use of the wide range of Institute facilities, including libraries, ICT facilities, study areas and student support services.

“I completed programme DT248 Stage 3 in 2008 and am currently finishing Stage 4 with the view to commencing the MSc in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics programme. I've found my time studying in DIT both personally rewarding and highly useful in my day-to-day teaching. Lecturers are very approachable and supportive of students in meeting the challenges of the set coursework. The schedule of twice-weekly evening lectures is ideally suited to working teachers who would otherwise find it difficult to balance further study with their working commitments. Furthermore, DIT's Kevin Street campus is widely accessible, even in evening traffic, for anyone living or working in the greater Dublin area. And while the general broadening of one's mathematical knowledge and skills is of benefit to one's teaching, I have found some specific aspects of the course content taught at DIT to be motivators of syllabi changes and extra-curricular activities in my own school; we ran a TY module on using iterative methods in solving systems of linear equations a number of years ago and a winning entry from our school in the 2008 BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (on the factors that affect the chances of a racehorse's future success) relied heavily on statistical material covered in the DT248 course. Any teacher interested in further study of Maths will not be disappointed after studying at DIT."

“I work as a secondary school teacher during the day. My only concern when I began was that it might be hard to juggle working during the day and going to college at night, but the course is so well regimented and the lecturers are completely accommodating that it was more than doable… In terms of my job I found the course to be invaluable. It made and still constantly makes me think about Mathematics on a far deeper level than I would have and this approach has filtered through into my lesson plans and hopefully to the students. I used to find it challenging when the students would ask for context with different strands of Mathematics but my knowledge of the subject now gives me complete confidence to contextualise the different strands of Mathematics.”
