Department of Academic Studies

The Department of Academic Studies takes responsibility for all the academic content of the full time degree programmes and also provides a graded system of musicianship classes which supports the keyboard, orchestral and vocal departments individual tuition scheme for its many part time students. The department see itself as underpinning the performance activities of the conservatory while at the same time encouraging and strengthening its research profile both in academic research and in creative practice. The department offers certificate, degree and post graduate programmes as well as supervising a significant number of people engaged in MPhil and Doctorate research.

Part time students of the Conservatory taking practical lessons are expected to attend Musicianship classes. Enrolment for these classes takes place separately at the beginning of September each year. Exemptions from Musicianship for part time students are considered on a case-by-case basis. Please see the Musicianship Exemption Form 2011/12 for more information and for applying for exemptions.
