DIT Symphony Orchestra

The DIT Symphony Orchestra is the Conservatory’s most senior orchestra and consists of third-level and advanced second-level students.  The orchestra presents regular concerts in the Gleeson Theatre, DIT Kevin Street and the National Concert Hall. The orchestra’s repertoire includes the major symphonic repertoire and opera, as well as music for film and musical theatre.  Recent highlights include a National Concert Hall performance of the film music of Nina Rota as part of the Jamieson International Film Festival, A Night of American Music also at the National Concert Hall, and a performance of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.  The orchestra regularly collaborates with colleagues in the Vocal, Opera and Drama Department in opera productions and with composition students in the rehearsal and performance of contemporary works for orchestra. Each year, the orchestra presents concerto performances with outstanding Conservatory students.

The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Brophy, rehearses on Friday evenings and Saturdays in the lead up to a concert.
