Luke Deaton

Luke Deaton was born in Dublin and is a native of Dundrum. His musical life began music with tin whistle and piano lessons until, at age 12, he took up the B/C button accordion. This proved to be his instrument of choice, despite forays with other instruments over the years. He was initially taught by Tullamore musician Sheila Doorley and most recently by eminent teacher and performer John Regan. His playing is influenced by the playing of such accordionists as Danny O'Mahony, Paudie O'Connor and Colm Gannon and is firmly rooted in the tradition they represent. Luke plays regularly around Dublin City and has played abroad in such places as France, The Netherlands and the U.S.A. He is currently in his final year of a Bachelor of Music in D.I.T. and is writing a dissertation on Irish-American accordion player Joe Derrane.
