Programme Outline

The MMus (Performance) aims to facilitate the artistic, intellectual and creative development of students and to equip them with the range of skills necessary to meet the constantly changing and ever increasing demands made on the professional musician of the 21st century. The programme is designed to operate over one calendar year for full-time students and over two years for part-time students.. The curriculum can be seen as having three strands:

1. Performance
designed to provide students with the training and experience necessary to enable them to meet the demands of the performing profession at the highest levels.

2. Academic and Supporting Professional Studies
designed to underpin the professional training in performance with the development of :
a) analytical and research skills with particular emphasis on issues relating to performance practice
b) extra-musical skills reating specifically to the music industry in the 21st century and including issues relating to business , finance, promotion and publicity along with personal communication and presentation.

3. Performance based Research Project
designed to develop students’ critical and analytical skills, particularly in the area of performance practice
