Marian Deasy

Marian Deasy is a graduate of University College Dublin and, following her graduation in 1975, she worked in the Folk Music section of the Folklore Department in UCD. During her time there as cataloguer and later archivist, she was also engaged in postgraduate research, culminating in her doctoral thesis entitled New Edition of Airs and Dance Tunes from the Music Manuscripts of George Petrie LL.D, and a Survey of his Work as a Collector of Irish folk Music.

Her transcriptions of Irish traditional tunes have appeared in a number of publications, including The Mount Callan Garland by Tom Munnelly.

Since 1989 she has been employed in the Academic Studies Department at the Conservatory of Music and Drama, as lecturer in Irish traditional music, musicianship teacher and dissertation supervisor.

She was BMusEd Course Chair for seven years (1996-2003), and a member of the BMusEd Inter-institutional and Co-ordinating Committees.
