Julian Pusca wins Irish Freemasons' Young Musician of the Year 2012

Congratulations to Julian Pusca (MMus, pan-flute) who was awarded First Prize in the prestigious Irish Freemasons’ Young Musician of the Year 2012 and “The Brennan Prize” as the most promising musician in the Competition at the Gala Final in the Freemasons’ Hall on Saturday 13th October 2012.  He was awarded the prestigious title by an international jury: Jane Carty (Ireland, Chairman of the Jury), Michel Camatte (France), Hilary Coates (England), Seamus Crimmins (Ireland), Dawn Reinhart (USA) and Alasdair Tait (Scotland). Julian is a Master of Music student at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, where he studies with Ciaran O’Connell and Keith Pascoe.

DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, CIT Cork School of Music, Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick enter their best performers in this annual competition.  Julian wowed the international jury with a stunning performance, taking first prize (€5000) and the Brennan prize for ‘the most promising musician’ (€1000).  Congratulations also to the Conservatory’s other competitors:  Valdis þorkelsdóttir (BMus, trumpet), Claire O’Donnell (BMus, harp) and Gavin Brennan (BMus, saxophone) who gave sterling performances in the semi-finals. Julian’s success comes after his brilliant performance last Monday at the RDS Concert Hall as part of its ‘Rising Stars’ recital series.  In addition to the two prizes, Julian’s first prize includes an engagement with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. http://www.freemasonsmusic.ie/

Biography

Julian began his musical education at Maria Biesu School of Arts in his home town in Moldova, Stefan- Voda, and studied with pan-flute professor, Ion Negura, at the Music Lyceum “Ciprian Porumbescu”. He pursued higher education at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Visual Arts (Kishinev, Moldova). Julian is currently a Master of Music student at DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, where he studies with Ciaran O’Connell and Keith Pascoe.

Julian Pusca is an exceptionally talented young artist, well known for his astonishing pan-flute skills across a wide range of genres including classical, jazz and Moldovan folklore music. He has toured throughout Europe, playing with many well known musicians and performing as soloist with orchestras, including the Moldova National Philharmonic Symphonic Orchestra, the Kishinev Chamber Orchestra of Organ Hall, the Jalas–Jarven Symphony Orchestra Finland, Schwerin Symphonic Orchestra Germany and many other folk orchestras and renaissance ensembles. He has received international prizes in Moldova, Romania, Ukraine and Korea and in 2008 he became an Honored Artist of Moldova.
