October 9: Con Tempo Quartet present "different trains"

THE GALWAY MUSIC RESIDENCY NATIONAL TOUR

‘different trains’
ConTempo Quartet and Mihai Cucu

Wednesday 9 October, 7.30pm
The Theatre, DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Rathmines Road

Five extraordinary artists – The Galway Ensemble in Residence, ConTempo Quartet and video artist Mihai Cucu – all originally from Romania and now living in Ireland, join forces to present a unique musical and visual event.  Music of striking imagery inspired by nature from Irish composers Jane O’Leary and Karen Power, American composer Steve Reich’s award-winning work for string quartet and tape ‘Different Trains’, a response to train travel in the US and Europe at the time of World War II, and Beethoven’s ‘Great Fugue’, described by Stravinsky as ‘contemporary forever’, will be performed by ConTempo Quartet. The music has been interpreted visually for this show by Mihai Cucu and will bring the audience on a journey from serenity to exuberance.  Like a pendulum, the mood moves from abstract to more figurative images.

This National Tour is supported by The Arts Council, NUI Galway, Bank of Ireland, Galway University Foundation, Galway City and County Councils and Friends of The Galway Music Residency.

Tickets:  Adults -- €10/8; children up to age 16 admitted free.  Reservations:  091 586706
