Director Mary Moynihan, Artistic Director and Theatre Consultant for Smashing Times Theatre Company and a full-time lecturer at the Conservatory, offers a new take on the timeless tale, whilst retaining the compelling qualities that make this story so engaging.
Speaking of the production Mary Moynihan said:
For me, Shakespeare’s characters are compelling, showing humanity in all its virtues and vices. His language is very accessible, when the actors find the rhythm, like a human heartbeat, they make it come alive. Shakespeare was writing for a sophisticated theatre audience drawn from all classes of society at the time. His plays were the rock concerts of their time and audiences expected entertainment and to be emotionally engaged. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is an experience not to be missed.’’
