National Skills Competition

Welcome to the Final Stage of the Department of Education and Science National Skills Competition.

The Department of Construction Skills hosts some of the Final Stages of a number of the competitions each year. This year the following competitions will be held in Linenhall and Beresford Street:

Brickwork

 

Carpentry

Joinery

  Painting/Decorating

Refrigeration

Plumbing

Apprentices who reach the Final Stage will have competed in the Preliminary Competitions which are held over the previous year. The Final Competition normally takes place over three days for a total of 21 hours.  The winner of each competition will receive the Department of Education and Science Silver Medal usually presented by the Minister at a formal presentation.

Many of the apprentices from within the Department of Construction Skills reach the Final Stage of the Competition. The winners of the Final may be chosen to compete in a selection process to represent their skill area at the World Skills Competition.  A number of lecturers from the Department are nominated each year to act as either expert or chief expert.
