Grangegorman Masterplan wins major international award

The Grangegorman Masterplan has won a major international architectural award for excellence in urban design. The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has just announced the 2012 recipients of its Institute Honor Awards and, from over 700 submissions, has chosen the Grangegorman Masterplan as one of just 27 projects throughout the world to be honoured with this prestigious award.

The Grangegorman Masterpan has been recognised by the American Institute of Architects

Each year, the AIA makes its Institute Honor Awards to reflect the highest recognition of works that exemplify excellence in three categories – architecture, interior architecture, and urban design. The Grangegorman Masterplan - designed by Moore Ruble Yudell, with their Irish partners on the project, DMOD – receives the Honor Award for excellence in Regional & Urban Design. In their endorsement of the project, the Jury commented that:

“This project presents an impressively comprehensive approach to site planning, with clear and systematic design strategies. The adaptive reuse of the historic existing buildings appears to be very successful.

Welcoming the announcement, the President of DIT, Professor Brian Norton said “This Award is a fitting tribute to the very excellent design team, led by US-based Moore Ruble Yudell, (MRY) and DMOD who are based here in Dublin. I would like to particularly thank and congratulate James Mary O’Connor of MRY and John Mitchell of DMOD who led the design team, and my own colleagues in DIT for their immense contribution in developing the brief and communicating the vision for this important project.”

The Awards will be presented at the AIA 2012 National Convention and Design Exposition in Washington, D.C. in May of this year, bringing further international attention to the Grangegorman campus project.
