DITs Junior Irish Culinary Team Achieves 10 Gold, 4 Silver, and 10 Bronze Medals in National Culinary Competition

The School of Culinary Arts assembled its top Junior Sqad for the 2011 Chef Ireland Competition held at the RDS in early February.  Led by their mentor and Culinary Coach Mr. George Smith, this years DIT competitors battled it out in a strong field of aspiring professional talent.

Ryan McGivern (DT432 Higher Certificate Culinary Arts - Professional Culinary Practice ) received 2 gold medals

Annmarie Malony (DT432) received 1 silver and a 1 bronze medal

Michael O’Connor (DT432 and DT416 BSc Culinary Entrepreneurship) received 1 gold and 1 bronze medal

Harry Quinn (DT407 BA Culinary Arts) received 1 gold and 2 silver medals

Rachel Warren (DT407 BA Culinary Arts) received 2 gold medals

Diarmuid Ryan (DT407 BA Culinary Arts) received 2 gold medals

Susan Murphy (MacNeans Restaurant) received 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal

Danielle O’Shaughnessy (Green Hen Restaurant) received 1 gold and 1 bronze medal

BA Culinary Arts Student Awarded Ph.D

At the DITs Graduation Ceremony held on February 19th2011, Clare Gilsenan was awarded her Ph.D.  Clare is a BA Culinary Arts student graduate and completed her doctoral thesis entitled ‘An Investigation into Factors Influencing the Sensory Properties of Selected Irish Grown Organic and Conventional Vegetables’.  Supervisors for this project were Dr Róisín Burke and Dr. Catherine Barry-Ryan.  Colleagues within the School of Culinary Arts and Food Technology congratulate Dr. Clare Gilsenan on achieving this most prestigious academic award.

In March 2011 Sean Gallagher (Dragons Den) presented a guest lecture concerning enterprise development to the MSc in Culinary Innovation and Food Product Development.
