The DIT Access Programme provides a broad range of supports to students from communities and backgrounds where there is little or no, tradition of attending third-level education.
The DIT Access Programme has already supported over 1,000 students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds in accessing DIT.

The Access Students
The Access Programme at DIT has been a huge success since its beginning in the late 1990s. Over 1,000 students, many of whom didn’t see college as an option, have graduated and are now making an impact across their communities, showing that with the right support everyone can reach their full potential.
“Access is a community where people are welcoming, helpful and inspiring. I had great mentors that moulded my future to what it is today.” - Rachael Kavanagh, B.Sc. Retail Management & Marketing
DIT’s Access Programme connects with local communities and schools, with disadvantaged and marginalised groups. Students on the programme are given the help they need to succeed – a personal mentor, vital financial assistance, advice and personal support.
The team also runs a Peer Mentor Programme, where older students act as guides and advisors for new access students.
“After getting such great help from my mentor, I wanted to give something back. Now I am in the 2nd year of my degree and work closely with first year access students, giving them the same help I got when I came here first.” - Josh Martin, B.Sc. Food Innovation
Keeping the door of the new campus open to all
As we move to our new home in Grangegorman we are strengthening our commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to higher education. In our new community we will continue to work with local schools and underrepresented groups to build on our vital Access Programme providing an innovative and caring learning environment for all.
“My Mam is amazed how much confidence I got in college and how far I have come. When I showed her around the college the pride she had for me nearly brought me to tears.”- Mags Hayes, B.Sc. Retail & Services Management
Increasing demand and stretched resources
Demand for the Access Programme is increasing all the time and this is forecast to continue into the future. But in recent years our Access funding has decreased by 50%. With additional resources we can assist more students who need our life changing support.
“Access gave me the opportunity to go to college. I had no other options. They gave me the ability to go back on track and let me do what I wanted to do with my life.” - Ololade Sabajo, B.Sc. Business & Management
Support future generations
Graduates of DIT understand the value of education and its power to transform lives and livelihoods. Please support the educational home that helped you progress through life and work.
Your vital gift will help underrepresented students like Jamie, Mags, Ololade, Rachael and Josh access the new DIT campus and forge a positive future.
Many of our Access students have been the first of their extended family to go to college. But they seldom are the last. Their brothers and sisters often follow in their footsteps.
