Buky Fazaz - 1st Year Architectural Technology

Buky is from Drogheda in Co. Louth. She lives with her Mum and her 4 brothers. Her older brother was the first in their family to attend third level education. She travels to Dublin every day on the bus to attend class getting up at 5.30 in the morning. Buky relies on the Access Fund to help towards her travel costs and class materials such as her overalls and site boots. She also purchased a lap-top this year so that she could work from home on auto-cad. In school Buky played Gaelic football for 5 years and she hopes to join the GAA team at DIT in second year if she can work it around her commute.
About half of the students from Buky’s secondary school did not continue on into Higher Education but for Buky her Mum and her family support her to go to college. ‘Your family is a big influence’ but she was also extremely motivated.
The Orientation Programme run by the Access office is a week-long p-re-college event run specifically for Access student by ‘Going to college is a huge jump and access allows you to do it at your own pace’.
Please help us support students like Buky with their travel expenses by making a donation to the Access Fund today.
