Shane Regazzoli, 3rd Year Manufacturing and Design Engineering

Shane is a 3rd year Manufacturing and Design Engineering student at DIT Bolton Street. He is from Raheny and went to secondary school locally in Sybill Hill. Shane’s great grandparents came from Italy to Dublin. His grandfather also spent time in Bolton Street as an apprentice.

Shane started in DIT as an Architecture student in 2011 but while he found the technical drawing and maths enjoyable he had no design flair and struggled. He dropped out at the end of 2nd year and found things really tough, “I literally fell into a hole”.

Due to personal circumstances Shane took a year out and then returned to DIT to study engineering. Unfortunately this time he wasn’t eligible to receive a grant so he relied on the support of the DIT Chaplaincy team and others to help with his fees as his family simply could not afford the fees .

For Shane, the financial support he received coming back to college was a one-off to help him get back on his feet. Like so many DIT students Shane has been working part-time in Penneys for the past 6 years to meet his day to day expenses.

Shane hopes to work in the automotive industry when he graduates.
