William Murphy – 2nd year Mechanical Engineering

William Murphy is from Dublin and lives with his Aunt and Uncle in Cabra. William is committed:

“I know I have to work hard to get what I want”.

He went to school in the Brunner just up the road from Bolton Street and was one of only a ‘handful’ of students who went on to college from his class. William feels that one of the reasons for this is that there are not enough services in local areas for young people to help them develop their own ambition. William is a student leader at DIT and a mentor to younger students. For him the transition to DIT was challenging but the support of the Access team and the dedicated orientation programme helped William to make friends and feel at home.

Alongside his work as a student leader William is Health and Safety Officer of the Engineering Society. He is also part of Africa Society and the Art and Design Society. William is a role model for the young people who may follow his path, he recently visited his secondary school to speak to students about his college experience.

Please help us invest in the future of young engineers like William by making a donation to the Access Fund here.
