DIT Foundation Joins Campaign to Promote Legacy Giving
DIT Foundation has joined with over 30 charities and voluntary organisations who have came together, under the auspice of Legacy Promotion Ireland (LPI), to launch a campaign to promote legacy giving in Ireland.
An example of a legacy that is making a real and lasting contribution is the Michael O’Donnell Memorial Fund in Dublin Institute of Technology. Established in 2007 with a legacy from the estate of the late Michael O’Donnell, a former principal of Bolton Street College of Technology and the first acting President of DIT, the Fund supports engineering teaching and research activities in DIT and is managed by DIT Foundation.
Speaking about the reasons behind the establishment of the Memorial Fund, John Joe O’Donnell, brother of Michael O’Donnell, said, “Michael endeavoured through all his life to help other people achieve their true potential. Today, his legacy lives on through the Michael O’Donnell Memorial Fund at Dublin Institute of Technology which supports new teaching and research projects for the next generation of students at DIT.”
The Drive Project at DIT Bolton Street
Recently, two projects that take highly innovative approaches to engineering education, the Voluntary Maths Tuition Programme and the Drive Project, were selected by DIT Foundation and the College of Engineering and Built Environment for funding from the Michael O’Donnell Memorial Fund.
