Ballymun Music Programme
The Ballymun Music Programme run by DIT provides an entry to the wonderful world of music-making for primary school children in Ballymun. This area in North Dublin has experienced years of neglect but is now undergoing a programme of regeneration.
Working in partnership with local schools DIT provides instrumental tuition and ensemble opportunities in a purpose built Music Room in Ballymun which was launched in 2009 by President Mary McAleese and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
DIT provides a structure that facilitates the on going development of young musicians from primary level through to third level education. At primary level there are recorder classes, two junior wind bands, a junior string orchestra and choirs. At second level the programme provides support to the Ballymun Trinity Comprehensive School in preparation for Junior and Leaving Certificate Music examinations and maintains a scholarship programme in conjunction with the DIT Conservatory of Music & Drama for exceptionally talented children.
At third level support is provided for students who are taking music as part of their third level degree courses.
