37 TY Students get 'up close' to

Architecture at DIT

Architecture TY Programme 2016

DIT Foundation were delighted to award a grant in 2016 to support school kids engagement with Architecture and Architectural Technology.

37 Transition year students from schools across the country took part in the TY week in the school of Architecture. The event was open to all TY students interested in a career in Architecture and Architectural Technology.

The week began with a series of short exercises exploring materials and creativity and continued on with a series of talks on architecture and the built environment. A tour of Henrietta Street with a visit to one of the houses was followed by a visit to the Hugh Lane Gallery and the Irish Architecture Foundation.

The students working in teams designed their ideal house. This was followed by a tour the college facilities and a meeting with the current students of architecture.

The week concluded with a visit to some contemporary buildings in the docklands and a visit to see an architect’s office and see work in progress.
