DIT Foundation delighted to support FormulaDIT
This year DIT Foundation was delighted to award a grant of €2,000 to Formula DIT to support their trip to Silverstone in July.

This year, for the fifth time, DIT will participate in Class 1 Formula Student Event at Silverstone. The Class One Formula Student Event challenges third-level students to design, build and test a single-seat racing car in a competitive environment. DIT is the only Irish college taking part in this event. The Formula Student competition is Europe’s biggest student motorsport event, attended in 2015 by more than 2,500 students from a “who’s who” of over 120 leading Universities from 30 countries.

From over 100 team entries form universities from around the world, the DIT team finished 47th in 2011 and 21st in 2013. The team were delighted with their previous placing especially as they competed on a very modest budget against top universities, some spending in excess of €100,000 on the development of their car.

Once the team have designed, built and tested the car at DIT, the competition then requires that the car is put to the test (in a series of dynamic and static tests) by a team of independent judges over four days at the Silverstone Racing Circuit in the UK between 13 July - 17 July, 2016.
