Do the Math at DIT!
Since 2010 the Michael O'Donnell Memorial Fund has been supporting inspirational projects at DIT Bolton Street including the ongoing Maths Tuition Programme which each year pairs DIT engineerging undergrads with leaving cert students to help the school leavers reach their potential in maths.
This project would not work with the close collaboration with two inner city schools O'Connell's Boys School and Mount Carmel.

Michael O'Donnell Fund supports interdisciplinary projects
In 2013/2014 Michael O’Donnell Memorial Fund supported two interdisciplinary projects at DIT Bolton Street in the past year aimed at providing opportunities for students to engage in interdisciplinary community-based learning or community-based research projects. This fund was run in partnership with DIT’s Students Learning with Communities (SLwC).
An Urban Design Masterplan for Cabra
DIT Students presenting their work for An Urban design Masterplan for Cabra
One such project was a collaboration between three student groups - Individual Spatial Plan, Collaborative Planning and Urban Design Masterplan focusing on an Urban Design Masterplan for Cabra.
The DIT SLwC Michael O’ Donnell Fellowship supported the project with a grant which permitted:
- Collaborative planning seminar
- Customised engagement component
- Dissemination and display
The Project was designed to immerse the students in a real-life community engagement scenario. It is the final group project in their degree programme and the aim is to ready them for real-world situations where they have to prepare bespoke solutions to deal with actual problems faced by communities.
If you would like to learn more about this project check out their Michael ODonnell Cabra Vision presentation.
Design Schemes for Dublin
The Michael O’Donnell Memorial Fund also supported another interdisciplinary project with DIT students of Architecture, Architectural Technology and Structural Engineering.
The project focused on researching and developing two design schemes for a new city library and inner city housing in association with Dublin City Council and Dominic Street Residents Associations.
This project involved a number of key collaborations and partnerships including workshops, exhibitions, public consultation and grass roots engagement. DIT is proud to work with our local communities.
