2016 Maths Tuition Programme
Engineers tutoring Maths to leaving cert students

College group behind the Maths Tuition Programme
In 2010 the Michael O’Donnell Fund awarded a grant to the Maths Tuition Programme in DIT Bolton Street which aimed to pair engineering students with leaving cert maths students in local schools.
6 years later the programme has gone from strength to strength and last week was the annual celebration and award ceremony to recognise the time and energy devoted to this project by the college and Mount Carmel school.
The programme is currently coordinated by Rosarie McCloskey, a PhD student in mechanical engineering in the college along with support from Michael Carr and the Chaplain Team.

Rosarie McCloskey, Programme Coordinator & PhD Student
A team of volunteers attend the school every week during lunchtime to provide extra opportunity for leaving cert students to revise and further develop their maths skills. The programme has worked really well and been a great collaboration between DIT and Mount Carmel Secondary School. Students involved on both sides not only really enjoy the experience but also gain confidence and new skills.

About the Michael O’Donnell Fund
The Michael O’Donnell Memorial Fund was launched in 2007 to support engineering teaching and research activities at DIT and the development of engineering facilities at the new DIT campus at Grangegorman. The fund was established with a legacy from the estate of the late Michael O’Donnell, former principal of Bolton Street College of Technology and the first acting President of DIT. The Fund is managed by DIT Foundation, a registered charity that promotes and supports the development of DIT. Learn More.
