An Investigation & Evaluation of the Hydrodynamics of Small Irish Catchments

Work Package 01: Water Balance Dynamics Evaluation

Work package 1 will involve a review of national and international literature to produce a clear and precise definition of a small catchment.  This definition will be used, with a review of data availability, as selection criteria to identify hydrometric stations of small catchments suitable for further analysis. The selected catchments will be nested in at least two large catchments, to facilitate work within Work Package 3.

Work Package 02: Small Scale Benchmark Catchment Identification

The findings of WP01 will input into the characterisation of the typical behaviour of various types of small Irish catchments in WP 02. To complete the characterisation of these catchments, additional information will be collected through conducting a stakeholder survey.  These include the OPW, Met Eireann, Teagasc, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Inland Fisheries Ireland, Council for Forest Research and Development (COFORD), and Marine Institute, Local Authorities and consultants.

Work Package 03: Upscaling of Hydrological Processes

The selected catchments will be analysed in WP 03 to investigate the upscaling of hydrological processes from small into large catchment. The hydrological model used in WP 01 will also be used in any modelling in WP03. Recommendations for long term monitoring will be assessed.
