Biography

Dr Sarah McCormack is a senior researcher in the Dublin Energy Lab at the Dublin Institute of Technology. In 2004, she graduated from the University of Ulster with a PhD in a novel method for solar concentration using quantum dots under the supervision of Prof Philip Eames and Prof Brian Norton in collaboration with Imperial College London, Manchester University and BPSolar. After which she worked on EU projects based on evacuated glazing and phase change materials for energy storage.  She began work in the Dublin Institute of Technology under a Sustainable Energy Ireland funded project developing the work undertaken through her PhD and was invited to join an FP6 EC consortium FULLSPECTRUM involving 17 academic and industrial partners. She is currently involved in the development of sustainability and energy related research programmes and in academic research activity in areas of Solar Energy, PV and Energy Policy.

As PI she was awarded funding to develop a Solar Energy Applications and Research facility in Ireland funded under the Strand III Technological Sector Research Initiative.  She was coordinator in initiating a recent COST Action on Next generation cost effective phase change materials for increased energy efficiency in renewable energy systems in buildings and is a research partner in the FP7-funded NMP EPHOCELL project. Currently main supervisor of 5 PhD researchers along with cosupervisor of 3 others.
