PhD Researcher

Biography

Manus Kennedy is a PhD researcher in the Dublin Energy Laboratory based at the Focas Institute at the Dublin Institute of Technology. The PhD research, supervised by Dr Sarah McCormack, Dr John Doran and Prof Brian Norton, is focused on ray-trace modelling of Luminescent Solar Concentrators, with the aim of optimizing the efficiency of the concentrators. Luminescent Solar Concentrators are used to increase the intensity of light incident on a given area of photovoltaic cell, and it is hoped that an optimized concentrator design will lead to major cost reductions in photovoltaic electricity production.


Manus graduated from NUI Galway in 2000 with BSc in Applied Physics and Electronics. Manus completed an MSc in Computational Science in UCD in 2005 and has also worked as a research assistant in DIT with Dr. Kirk Shanks on an Alternatve Energy Systems Assesment Guide, prior to commencing the PhD research position.
