At DIT you can enter your engineering studies at a number of different levels and through different avenues.
DIT offers Level 8 Honours Degrees (Bachelor of Engineering, Honours), which lead to the registered professional title of Chartered Engineer from Engineers Ireland after 4+ years of work experience.
Level 7 Ordinary Degrees (Bachelor of Engineering Technology, BEngTech), which lead to the registered professional title of Associate Engineer from Engineers Ireland after 3/4 years of experience.
Higher Certificate (Level 6), which leads to the registered professional title of Engineering Technican from Engineers Ireland after 3+ years of experience.
You can also enter through the Preliminary Engineering Foundation Certificate, Level 6, which prepares suitable students for entry to one of the Bachelor of Engineering Honours Degree Programmes.
The Ladder: With DIT you can enter at Level 6 or 7 and move up the ladder to qualify with an Honours Degree, (subject to attaining requisite grades). As Honours Maths is not required for Level 6 or 7 with this system you can become a Professional, Chartered Engineer without Honours Maths.
