Rain Harvesting

Dr Sean O’hOgain, Liam Mc Carton, C. Eng., Dr John Turner and Dr Anna Reid. Rain Harvesting.

Research investigates a range of measures to store and reuse rainwater to reduce flooding and help to conserve water resources by utilising rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS).

Researchers from the Development Technology in the Community research group (DTC) were commissioned by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government to examine the potential of using rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS) to replace treated mains water for non-drinking uses in domestic, agricultural and education installations. They are developing and testing innovative system designs in addition to developing an economic model to identify scenarios where RWHS would be economically viable in Ireland.
