Module Description

This module explores the growing importance of the business travel segment in the overall tourism market. It is important that students have the option of an in-depth and practical examination of the issues that are specific to business tourism.

Module Aims

The aim of this module is to develop in the students an awareness of the growing importance; the structures; and the trends in the international and domestic business travel sector.

Indicative Syllabus

Introduction to Business Tourism, Sub Sectors, Tourism Context Role of Government agencies nationally and internationally in growing the business travel market. Measuring economic contribution of business tourism. History & development of the conference/meetings industry. Conference planning. Field Trip Business Travel Buying Process Incentive Travel - history and development. Designing a programme. Marketing Challenges Technology and Business Tourism The Agency / Client Perspective in Business Tourism Guest Lecture Current issues in Business Tourism. Business Travel Trends and developments for the future Seminars - Project Presentation
