This is a one year conversion higher certificate programme in Hotel and Restaurant Operations. The programme is
designed for applicants who have completed a trade qualification in a different discipline or for applicants who already
hold a FETAC Level 6 award in a different field of study. This programme prepares students for entry level roles in the
broader hospitality sector, for example in hotels, restaurants, bars, catering and event companies. Modules are delivered
in during the day and evenings. A key feature of this programme is a structured three months industry placement.
Employment opportunities in the rapidly expanding hotel and tourism sector are plentiful.

Work-based Learning and Placement
This course incorporates a supervised structured placement. Students will be supervised by an industry mentor and an
academic supervisor. The placement is structured in so far as students have to meet set learning outcomes, they have to
follow a specific work programme, and they have to complete a learning journal. This is to ensure that students acquire a
broad set of relevant skills and competencies required to work in the hospitality industry. This applied element of the
programme will make certain that students will attain a high degree of employability after completion of the programme.
