Higher Diploma in Hospitality Management

This is a one year conversion higher diploma (honours degree level 8) programme in hospitality management. The
programme is designed for applicants who have completed a level 8 qualification in another discipline (with or without
relevant industry experience) or a level 7 in another discipline combined with hospitality industry experience. This
programme prepares students for supervisory and management level roles in the broader hospitality sector, for example
in hotels, restaurants, bars, catering and event companies. Modules are delivered in during the day and evenings. A key
feature of this programme is a structured three months industry placement. Upon successful completion, students can
apply for a Masters programme in Hospitality / Tourism / Event Management. Employment opportunities in the rapidly
expanding hotel and tourism sector are plentiful.

This course incorporates a supervised structured placement. Students will be supervised by an industry mentor and an
academic supervisor. The placement is structured in so far as students have to meet set learning outcomes, they have to
follow a specific work programme, and they have to complete a learning journal. This is to ensure that students acquire a
broad set of relevant skills and competencies required to work in the hospitality industry. This applied element of the
programme will make certain that students will attain a high degree of employability after completion of the programme.
